Friday we rolled into Whitehorse, Yukon and got settled in at Pioneer RV Park. On Saturday we decided to head out to Skagway, Alaska which as we all knows, happens to be in the good old USA. Skagway is about 2 hours west of Whitehorse. The drive was absolutely beautiful…so different from most of the other places we have been. We had been over mountains before but it was like we were just driving all through them on this day. I sort of felt like I could have been in eastern Europe trying to cross into some country illegally. Some of these border crossing people almost make you think you are doing something wrong.
Emerald Lake was gorgeous…I thought I was looking at the Caribbean. There is an explanation but it is too technical for me.
Here are some of the things we saw…
One of several truck escape routes along the way. Notice the tall poles with the thingys that stick out over the road…these are reflectors that can be seen by motorists during blizzards. Like, who would want to travel these roads during a blizzard!!!!!
Pictures taken in Skagway
This little girl was being sworn in as a Junior Ranger…she was so cute and everyone was taking her picture.
Engine for the White Pass snow fleet…that thingy moves the snow out of the way.
There was only one cruise ship in port on Saturday…Holland America Lines…can’t remember the name of the ship.
It was a great day and we are so glad we took time to make the drive.
Moving on.
